Starting a New Adventure
Here we go...this is my first blog post on my new website, and I'm excited that all of you are here to be a part of the journey. It's going to be a fun one. As I go about tackling my writing and editing pursuits, I'll include details on here about what I'm up to. I'll also probably include a few rants about writing, grammar, journalism, creativity, and anything else that comes to mind.
At the very least, you'll get to hear a lot about my dog. He's a corgi named Tyrion, and he's not very well behaved, but I keep him because he's adorable. Here we are earlier this summer:
In addition to writing about writing, I'll probably go into depth about some of my hobbies. Y'know, because you're supposed to write what you know. This is one of the reasons I think it's important for writers to be well-rounded people.
When I'm not writing, you'll probably find my either in rehearsal for a theater production or else going for ridiculously long runs. Here's a picture of me after I finished a marathon last year:
To be completely honest, marathons are pretty awful, but I do them because they teach you a lot about life (more on that in a future blog post) and you get serious bragging rights. My marathon in 2018 was the first time I didn't hate the world for the second half of the race.
When I'm not writing as a journalist, I write fantasy novels for teen/middle-grade readers. I know that this genre has a lot of competition, but I'm drawn to it because these escapist stories were what made me into a reader as a young person, and thus made me into a writer. Here's some artwork I did depicting the main characters of my first novel, "The Purple Bird," which came out earlier this year:
I admit that I'm a much better writer than I am an artist, but I like doodling because it helps me clear my head.
